If you don't know where to start, follow these expert organizing tips to help you take control of your home. Start a new life this spring with these 6 easy home cleaning tips.

Reasons to Declutter

Whether you're doing this as part of a downsizing effort or just looking to make life easier for yourself, cleaning your entire home is a lot of work. While cleaning your home and office will take time and regular effort, it's an achievable goal. Simply put, decluttering is the process of taking things out of a cluttered place and giving them a new "home". While you're cleaning, keep in mind that the goal is to have a dedicated space for every item you store.

Physically Decluttering

One of the most difficult aspects of decluttering is knowing how to physically move these items out of the house. To avoid clutter, be sure to store items where they will be used. Everyone in the house may randomly throw things into the main pantry of the house, so there can be a mess. Get everything out of the closet to get to work and invest in organizational features that help you smartly store what you really need in this space.

One Room at a Time

Enter any room in your home and place each item in one of the boxes below. Then look around every room in your home and name the item in one of the three large boxes. It's much easier to visualize what you want to keep and what you want to donate, and these boxes make it easier to transfer unwanted items to a wastebasket or donation basket. Bring these containers to any room when cleaning, or keep them in a central location in your home while you work.

The Bedroom

In the bedroom, storage shelves allow books, knick-knacks, and other items to be given book space at home without cluttering dressers. Create extra storage space in your home and office so you can organize things stress-free. Keep the sentimental stuff until you have the practice of decluttering and winning without the mess. If learning to clean was easy, every house would be cleaned and everyone would stay that way.
