How to Choose a Hot Tub

How to Choose a Hot Tub

A hot tub is a big investment, and you want to ensure that you're making the right choice for your needs. Here are a few important things to consider. Home Depot has a wide range of hot tubs and with a Home Depot Discount Coupon from We Are Coupons you can save money on a brand new hot tub.

Cheap hot tubs may work well for a short time, but they will cost you more in the long run in terms of maintenance and chemicals. Look for a warranty that will cover all parts of the hot tub for at least 1 to 3 years.

Size and Shape

The size of your hot tub or swim spa and how you plan to use it will determine what kind of model you should look for. If it will just be you and your significant other using the tub, a smaller 2 to 3 seater will be perfectly fine. If you intend to entertain and regularly have people over for parties, opt for a larger 6-, 8- or 10-seater to accommodate your guests comfortably.

You should also consider the amount of space you have available for a hot tub. You will need to leave at least 12" of clearance on all sides for maintenance access.

You can save on energy costs by insulating your hot tub. Place a thermal blanket around your tub to provide extra warmth and prevent heat from escaping. This is an inexpensive and easy addition that can make a big difference on your utility bills over time. Also, ensure that the barrier to your hot tub (deck, fence, etc) is well insulated as this will keep cold air out and warm air in, which again can save you on energy costs.

Space

The location of your hot tub should be well-considered as it can make a difference in the long term. For instance, a south facing position will help to absorb sunlight helping with heat retention. Also if you can build or install your hot tub in a gazebo or similar structure this will add extra insulation and protection from the elements which will save energy.

Similarly, your chosen spot should be suitable for the weight of the hot tub and its water. It will need an adequate foundation such as a concrete pad, patio or wooden deck that can take the weight of both and is structurally sound enough to do so.

Also, if you plan on powering your new hot tub with a generator or electricity then be sure to consider the location of this as it may need to be within certain distances from the hot tub or will require an electrician to wire up. Also, if your hot tub is near the house it may be easier to access when it comes to maintenance and cleaning such as changing filters, sanitizing the water and cleaning the covers.
