But December is still a month of looking after your home and with a Home Depot Money Off Coupon you can do so for less. But what needs to be done around the home in December?
Furnace Air Filters
You need to replace the air filters for your furnace every three months and if you are working on a twelve month calendar December is very much a month to change them. Replacing your air filter means air will flow freely and feel fresh in your home and at Christmas, with lots of visitors you need this. The job of replacing your air filter is something you can easily do yourself with little effort. The air filter is usually found behind the air return grate mounted on a wall or in the floor. The filter may also be located in or near the air handler.
Insulate your attic
December is the best time of year to check your attic insulation. Your property can lose a lot of warmth with a poorly insulated attic. In most instances you may need to add a further layer of fresh insulation and in some you may to completely replace what you have with new insulation material. If you currently have no attic insultation it is advisable to get some. Attic insulation comes in batts or rolls and is relatively easy to install.
Garden Hoses
It is very easy to overlook your garden hoses only to head back outside in the spring, turn them on and find they have split. If you have not done so already December is the time to disconnect your hoses, drain them and roll them up neatly for winter storage. In doing this your garden hoses will last much longer.
Insulate outdoor faucets and pipes
Your outdoor water pipes can easily burst during a cold winter. To avoid this it is recommended that you insulate any outdoor pipes and faucets. There are many different solutions for this and you should choose the one that suits your needs best.
Put the lights up
Finally the best home maintenance task for December is to put up those all important Christmas lights. Whether you go all out hoping to be seen from space or whether you have just a sprinkle of colour and happiness is up to you. Get your lights up and before you know it you can sit back and the winter holidays with loved ones, family and friends.
